'The World We Love In: Understanding Sexual Identity' Art Show

Friday, 07 March, 2014

Sex Week is partnering with Gallery 1010 for this art show downtown. In The World We Love In: Understanding Sexual Identity, UT artists explore the creation of sexual identity. We all have a sexual identity, thoughts, desires, attractions, and values that are unique. But there is a big wide world out there that also shapes and impacts our sexuality. What does it mean, for example, to be queer in the conservative South? How do our views about gender or religion affect our sexuality? UT artists investigate the impact that influences such as religion, culture, family values, sex education, and pop culture, have on our understanding of our sexual identity. The goal of this exhibition is to jumpstart mature conversation regarding the development of a healthy sense of sexuality and therefore safe sex practices.
