Fri Oct 20 @ 11:00 AM in HBB 303
The UT Sports Analytics Club invites you to our meeting featuring Jason Sherwin, co-founder of deCervo. Free pizza and drinks will be provided! RSVP here.
Abstract: deCervo's stated mission is to measure and improve performance. But what does that mean for scouting and developing baseball hitters. In this talk, Jason Sherwin, Founder and CEO of deCervo, will walk through how deCervo has measured and improved cognitive performance of professional baseball hitters. Dr. Sherwin will first describe deCervo's product in baseball, uHIT, and show how it has the capability of accurately measuring cognitive features of hitter performance amidst the constraints of professional usage. Then, he will discuss the results of two studies in which professional players from two different Major League Baseball organizations used uHIT. In these studies, he will show the relationships deCervo has found between metrics captured in uHIT and those measured in concurrent live games. Finally, he will show the neuroscientific background that allows deCervo to capture these cognitive metrics with uHIT.
