Kyle Schlesinger will work on series of screen printed posters made in collaboration with UT faculty and students titled A People’s Curriculum for the United States. This project is a public poster initiative written, printed, and distributed by the people and for the people. A People’s Curriculum for the United States asks us to ask ourselves, and one another, what America needs to (re)learn in the new political order. The posters will be circulated free of charge on the Joe Johnson John Ward Mall on Friday October 13 from 11am-1pm
Kyle Schlesinger has been printing letterpress for twenty years. He established Cuneiform Press, a 501(c)3 literary arts organization, in 2000. Cuneiform Press specializes in publishing poetry, artists’ books, and books-about-books in the tradition of the independent press. Cuneiform is committed to publishing enduring (and occasionally ephemeral) works that negotiate critical and creative thinking, merging the latest industry trends with historically-informed typographic practices to foreground the state of the book in our contemporary cultural climate.
Schlesinger’s PhD dissertation at SUNY Buffalo was on the subject “Letterpress Printing in the Postmodern Era: Poetry, Media and Typography.” Schlesinger has an extensive record of self-published and peer reviewed books, book chapters and journal articles encompassing critical, literary and creative works. He has been a regular contributor to the Journal of Artist Books and forthcoming are two creative books, Duration (DoubleCross Press, 2017) with Aaron Cohick and Poetry & Typography (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2017).
