Trans Work in Composition: Challenges and Opportunities

Thursday, 17 August, 2017

Professor Anis Bawarshi, University of Washington, Seattle will give the Keynote talk for the Department of English's Fall 2017 Teaching Workshops.

Scholars in the field of composition studies has been concerned of late with what might be called a trans orientation to the study and teaching of writing, including research in knowledge transfer, translingualism, transmodality, transliteracies, and translation. Such work draws our attention to meso-practices of all kinds: both what happens in the in-betweens and also how we can study and teach what happens there. In his presentation, Professor Bawarshi will focus on what research on knowledge transfer has taught us about the complex factors that inform the movement of writing knowledge and skills across contexts, and the challenges we face when we encourage such trans work.
