Hunger, Poverty, and Nutrition Symposium: March 23-24, 2017

The Southeastern University Consortium on Hunger, Poverty, and Nutrition Symposium will be held in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee from Thursday, March 23, to Friday, March 24, 2017. The symposium will open with a presentation of USDA food security priorities, followed by panel discussions highlighting the work of consortium members. Thursday will end with a poster and networking session comprised of researchers and students. Friday will commence with a presentation on a pilot partnership between Tennessee’s WIC Program and Head Start, followed by breakout sessions focusing on consortium priorities and university collaboration. The Promoting Healthy Weight Colloquium 2.0: Food Security and Hunger, beginning in the afternoon, will include food security focused presentations related to obesity, the community schools model, new SNAP guideline adherence in corner stores, and emerging research trends. The registration fee for the event is $25 per person and will include hors d’oeuvres and refreshments on Thursday evening as well as a boxed lunch on Friday. Click here to register for the 2-day symposium. 


The registration fee is due upon check-in on the first day of the symposium. If unable to attend the entire 2-day event, the Promoting Healthy Weight Colloquium 2.0, starting at 12:50 pm Friday afternoon, is free for both onsite and webcast viewers. Registration is now open, and participants can register for either ONSITE or WEBCASTviewings. If you are registered for the 2-day symposium you are automatically registered for the Promoting Healthy Weight Colloquium 2.0. Please DO NOT register for both events.  


Additionally, the Consortium invites all members, community partners, and students to submit abstracts for poster presentations. Poster applications must be received by 11:59pm on March 1, 2017. More information regarding the poster session and application can be found at the following link:
