The UT/Pro2Serve Math Contest is in its 16th year and is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences Mathematics Department and Professional Project Services Inc. (Pro2Serve). The media sponsor is the Knoxville News Sentinel.
The contest promotes interest in mathematics among Tennessee high school students, encouraging them to attend UT and ultimately go into careers in mathematics, science, or engineering.
Students start the morning by taking the FERMAT I Exam with the Top 50 scorers advancing to the FERMAT II Exam. The Top 10 FERMAT II scorers are awarded $6,000 per year scholarships to UT for each of their four years of undergraduate work.
A double-elimination Math Bowl Tournament also takes place throughout the day, fostering healthy competition between the schools and concluding with awards of medals, T-shirts, plaques, trophies, and certificates.
The contest is designed to challenge any student who has completed Algebra I and II and Geometry although these courses are not required for contest entry.
Early registration runs from August 26th to September 25th ($10 per attendee) and regular registration runs from September 26th to October 30th ($15 per attendee). For more information visit our website: www.math.utk.edu/MathContest.
