TITLE: Well-posedness for some nonlinear hyperbolic equations
ABSTRACT: It is well-known that solutions of nonlinear hyperbolic PDEs often develop singularities in finite time, such as cusps, and shock waves. The lack of regularity is the major difficulty in the construction of solutions, and in the justification of uniqueness if the solution exists. In this talk, we discuss our recent progress on Camassa-Holm equation modeling shallow water, and variational wave equations for liquid crystals. This talk is based on joint works with Alberto Bressan and Qingtian Zhang.
