ABSTRACT: In this talk I would like to discuss the development of a phase field crystal model (PFC) that incorporates polarization and magnetization. As such the model describes magnetostriction and pizoelectricity in addition to the features already contained in PFC models, i.e., elasticity, dislocation and multi-crystal orientations. It will be shown that this model in the small deformation limit reduces to the traditional continuum field theories of multiferroic materials. Example applications will include the
influence of grain size on magnetic coercivity and magnetoelectric coupling in self assembled composite materials.
