ABSTRACT: This presents recent work on a specific variation problem
about minimizing the princial eigenvalue of a Schr"odinger operator
with a curvature dependent potential (as a function of the curve on
which the operator is defined). The problem and its motivation
will be introduced and basic obstructions to existence and
regularity that need to be overcome, will be discussed, along
with proof strategies.
In part 2 next week, some proofs including asymptotic analysis
of the singularity of a pertinent ODE will be shown.
