Empowering Women through Sports!

Thursday, 03 April, 2014

Join Senior Advisor and Public Diplomacy Envoy, Michelle Kwan, and female athletes from Argentina, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Nigeria, South Korea, and Turkey and learn about women's empowerment through sports and diplomacy. Ms. Kwan is a former world champion ice-skater and Olympic medalist (1995-2005). We will also be joined by Mayor Madeline Rogero, Chancellor Jimmy Cheek and Dean Bob Rider, College of Education, Health & Human Sciences.

The Center for Sport, Peace, and Society was established in 2012 with a $1.2 million grant. It is part of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences and the initiative aims to engage young girls and women in athletics to develop important life skills and use those skills to promote positive social change in their communities. It also is designed to increase cross-cultural understanding between international participants and Americans. It's unique because it's a public diplomacy initiative that emphasizes the importance of women as athletes and change agents," said Ashleigh Huffman, the center's assistant director.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear and learn about this initiative that is working to change lives around the world.
