Wednesday, 24 April, 2013

The Music of Tosti:  Love Songs of Southern Italy

Coinciding with Knoxville's "Italian week" and Knoxville Opera's Rossini Festival, the UT School of Music will host Italian soprano Manuela Formichella  performing Love Songs of Southern Italy by composer Francesco Paolo Tosti (1846 – 1916).

Formichella is an authority on the music of Tosti and is from the same city, Gulianova, Italy.

In addition, Formichella will premiere a new work entitled Vorrei, written by UT Assistant Professor Brendan McConville, which he describes as "a re-setting of a Tosti work by the same name," and "a modern homage to 19th century Italian salon music".

The concert will be held at 6:00 pm in Hall 32, and is free and open to the public.

Manuela Formichella, nationally renowned in her country and winner numerous awards, is currently a faculty member of the Conservatory L. D'Annunzio of Pescara, Italy. More information may be found at her website:
